Keyssa and IDT Announce Combination of Wireless Power with High-speed Wireless Data Transfer
Taipei, Taiwan. – June 5, 2018 – Keyssa, a leader in high-speed, contactless connectivity, and IDT, a leader in wireless power technology, today announced the industry’s first demonstration of high-speed contactless “Kiss Connectivity” in combination with wireless power that supports true “cable-free” high-performance power and data connectivity. The demonstration features a completely sealed SSD storage card that, when placed on a dock, is powered wirelessly while transmitting data at 5 gigabits per second (Gbps).
“Over the past year, we have seen a dramatic uptick in market demand for wireless power,” said Steve Venuti, VP Marketing at Keyssa. “But power is only half the equation to creating high-performance, cable-free products. Combining IDT’s wireless power technology with Keyssa’s contactless Kiss Connectivity fulfills the promise of products that perform at the highest level without the need for cables and mechanical connectors. Now, with the same action of placing your phone onto your charging pad, consumers can get high-speed data and video connectivity while charging their phone. ”
“As OEMs strive to meet consumer demands for feature-rich devices beyond smartphones and tablets, IDT’s industry-leading wireless power solutions meet both consumer and OEM needs,” said Laurence McGarry, Marketing Director of IDT’s Wireless Power Division. “Our proven wireless transmit and receive technology is paving the way to a wire-free world. The combination of IDT technology with Keyssa’s Kiss Connectivity demonstrates that there is no loss of performance with the elimination of cables.”
Central to the reference design are Keyssa’s Kiss Connectors: tiny, solid-state KSS104M connectors, in combination with IDT’s 5W transmit and receive kit.
About Keyssa’s KSS104M Kiss Connectors
Keyssa’s KSS104M Kiss Connectors can be safely tucked inside the skin of products and can transmit and receive data at extremely fast data rates, at speeds up to 6Gbps, simply by the devices “touching” each other. Kiss Connectors are designed to run standard protocols, including USB SS, DisplayPort, PCIe, SATA as well as low-speed protocols, with a very small footprint (3mm x 3mm). The combination of wireless power/data solution transmits and receives data at the USB SuperSpeed transfer rate of 5Gbps.
About IDT’s 5W and 15W Wireless Power Prototyping Kits
The IDT 5W and 15W wireless power prototyping kits provide a fast time-to-market solution with all the associated support collateral available online. IDT is the global leader in wireless power solutions for both the receivers (Rx) used in smartphones and other applications, as well as the transmitters (Tx) used in charging pads and automotive in-car applications.
